How this academic tool works

STEP 2

Add your passage

Choose a mode, then select Paraphrase.

STEP 3

Check meaning and citations, edit your result, then copy or download.

Paraphrase an idea, not just individual words

A good academic paraphrase shows that you understand a source. Read the passage, set it aside, and explain the idea using your own structure. Then compare your version with the source for accuracy and add a citation. Replacing a few words with synonyms is not enough to make a passage your own.

This academic paraphrasing tool uses an open-source language model running on your device to rewrite short passages. Load the model, choose a mode and select Paraphrase. You can edit the result directly, then copy or download it. The tool does not promise that revised text is original, free from plagiarism or suitable for submission without review.

Choose a focus for your revision

Academic mode asks for clear scholarly wording. Formal mode asks for a professional tone and full forms. Concise mode reduces unnecessary wording while retaining key information. Model-generated drafts can still change meaning, so compare every result with your original.

If your device cannot run the model, choose Lightweight editing for limited phrase suggestions. Those edits include reasons and can be selected individually. Be particularly careful when changing a verb connected to causation, certainty or the strength of evidence. A clearer sentence should not make a stronger claim than the source supports.

Keep citations and quotations intact

The model is instructed to retain quotations, numbers and citations, and the interface flags some missing quotations, citations or numbers after generation. These checks are limited and cannot guarantee factual accuracy. Lightweight phrase editing skips recognised quotations and common citation patterns. Always check the final paragraph and preserve citations for borrowed ideas even when the wording has changed.

A practical academic revision checklist

  • Identify the central idea before editing the sentence.
  • Preserve numbers, qualifications, names and technical terms.
  • Keep the meaning and level of certainty of the original evidence.
  • Check that the revised paragraph connects with the surrounding argument.
  • Retain a citation and an accurate reference for every borrowed idea.

Your text is processed locally in your browser. Save the revised text before leaving the page. The first model load downloads approximately 400 MB from public model hosts and needs a compatible WebGPU device with sufficient memory. Files may be cached by your browser for later visits. Loading and rewriting can take time, especially on phones. If the model cannot load, your original stays intact and lightweight editing remains available.

Frequently asked questions

Does my text go to an AI service?

No. The model runs in a worker on your device. Only public model files are downloaded; your passage is not sent to a text-processing service.

Why must I load a model?

Full rewriting needs a language model. Loading downloads approximately 400 MB and requires WebGPU and enough device memory. If your browser cannot run it, lightweight phrase editing is available.

Is the result always accurate?

No. AI may change meaning, names, technical details or citations. Review each result against your original and the sources before using it.

Do I need a student account?

The instant writing tools and reference generator are available without sign-in. A document-review request requires a verified student account so that the report can be returned in the correct private conversation.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes. The forms and editors adapt to smaller screens. Keep a downloaded copy of work you want to retain before closing a browser tab.
